About the Author
I'm David Rodgers, and I built Country Trailhead because too much outdoors advice online is either written by someone who's never actually done the thing, or it's so generic it could apply to any hobby with the nouns swapped out.
My path into the outdoors wasn't a straight line through the hunting and fishing industry, and I think that's part of what shapes how I approach this site. I spent time as a Marine Corps infantryman, which is where a lot of my comfort with land navigation, weather judgment, and being genuinely uncomfortable in the field for long stretches actually comes from. I've also served as a colonel in Civil Air Patrol, which sharpened the search-and-rescue and aviation-adjacent side of outdoor safety thinking. And before any of that, I was an Eagle Scout — honestly where the whole thing started, with campfires, knots, and land navigation as a kid.
None of that makes me the single best hunter or angler you'll ever read. What it does give me is a genuine, field-tested feel for the fundamentals that hold up across hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, and gear decisions generally — and a low tolerance for advice that sounds good but hasn't actually been tested outdoors. I'm based in Oklahoma.
